This is a good example of why you shouldn’t ignore a garage door that’s starting to bow, flex, or move out of shape.
In this video, the panels had become so badly bent that I had to manually push each section back into place just to get the door to come down.
At that point, the door was no longer traveling normally through the tracks. It was binding, getting stuck, and the sections had lost enough of their shape that replacement was the practical solution.
What makes this worth talking about is that problems like this usually don’t start this bad.
They often begin with slight bowing or flexing in a section. If that gets addressed early, a relatively simple repair — such as reinforcing the affected section with the proper strut or hardware — may be enough to keep the door operating properly for years.
In this case, the current homeowner had purchased the house with the garage door already in this condition.
Had the issue been addressed much earlier, there’s a good chance the previous owners could have avoided a much more expensive full-door replacement.
That’s the lesson here:
✅ Slight bowing is worth paying attention to
✅ Panels should not flex excessively while operating
✅ A door that binds or gets stuck is telling you something is wrong
✅ Early repairs are usually much cheaper than waiting for the damage to spread
If you notice your garage door starting to bow, flex, shake, or struggle through part of its travel, don’t wait until it reaches this point.
