Job Spotlight: Misaligned Safety Sensors

Sometimes a garage door problem looks like it’s going to require a service call when the fix is actually much simpler.

On this job, the opener was having trouble closing the door because the safety sensors had been knocked out of alignment.

When that happens, the opener may think something is blocking the doorway and refuse to close properly.

Common signs include:

✅ The door starts down, then reverses
✅ The opener light flashes
✅ You hear clicking from the opener
✅ One or both sensor lights look different or aren’t lit properly

In this case, there was nothing wrong with the opener itself.

We simply realigned the sensors, confirmed they were seeing each other correctly, and the door went right back to normal operation.

That’s why it’s worth checking the simple things first.

If your garage door suddenly won’t close, take a quick look at the sensors near the bottom of the tracks. Make sure nothing is blocking them and that both are pointed directly at each other.

Sometimes a small adjustment can save you from an unnecessary repair bill.

If the sensors look fine and the door still won’t operate correctly, give The Garage Door Guys a call and we’ll help figure out what’s going on.
