In most cases, yes — replacing both springs is the smarter move.

On a two-spring system, both springs usually have the same age, the same amount of use, and roughly the same number of cycles on them.
So if one spring breaks, the other one may not be far behind.
Replacing only the broken spring can leave you with:
✅ One brand-new spring
✅ One older, fatigued spring
✅ Uneven spring performance
✅ A higher chance of another service call soon after
Replacing both springs at the same time helps keep the system more balanced and gives you two springs with the same service life moving forward.
There are exceptions, of course. If one spring was recently replaced or the springs are not the same age, the right answer can depend on the specific setup.
That’s why we inspect the entire spring system before recommending anything.
If one of your garage door springs breaks, give The Garage Door Guys a call and we’ll help determine whether replacing one or both makes the most sense for your door.
