Not every garage door problem requires an expensive repair or replacement. Sometimes the issue comes down to improper adjustments and a little troubleshooting.
That’s exactly what we found on this job!
During our inspection, we discovered a few issues that were interfering with the door’s operation.
🔧 1️⃣ A Slipped Cable
One of the garage door cables had slipped out of its proper position. We also found a dirt dauber nest which can interfere with the system.
Garage door cables play an important role in keeping the door lifting and lowering evenly. When something interferes with their operation, it can cause the door to bind, move unevenly, or become unsafe.
🔧 2️⃣ Improper Spring Tension
We also discovered that the torsion springs weren’t providing enough tension to properly counterbalance the door.
It’s possible they weren’t wound correctly during a previous installation.
Here’s why that matters:
Your garage door opener isn’t designed to lift hundreds of pounds by itself. The spring system should counterbalance most of the door’s weight.
When the springs aren’t properly adjusted, the opener can experience unnecessary strain, potentially shortening its lifespan.
🔧 3️⃣ The Solution? Proper Adjustments!
After addressing the cable issue and correcting the spring tension, we were able to get the garage door lifting and lowering properly again.
No new garage door. No unnecessary parts replacement. Just identifying the problems and correcting them.
💡 HERE’S THE IMPORTANT PART!
A garage door that isn’t operating correctly doesn’t automatically mean something needs to be replaced.
Sometimes the solution is simply making sure the existing components are properly positioned, adjusted, and functioning as intended.
And that’s why a thorough inspection matters!
⚠️ Spring and cable adjustments involve components under significant tension and should always be handled by a trained professional.
At The Garage Door Guys, we believe in fixing what’s actually wrong rather than selling homeowners parts or equipment they don’t need.
Because sometimes the best repair isn’t replacing something. It’s knowing how to make what you already have work correctly.
